Very nice place and photos! Very nice photos Ian and Michael, I feel quite envious. A neighbour has just returned from a trip to Perth, they very much enjoyed it. I have a friend who lives in Seville Grove which I believe is a suburb of Perth. Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed the pictures. Paul, Seville Grove is on the outskirts of the city (about 35km from the city centre). It used to be semi-rural, but has been redeveloped in recent years.

What lovely photos Ian! The only thing I knew of Perth was its general location and physical isolation. Had no idea it was so well developed and developed so well! I like the idea of living that isolated from the rest of the world, yet having convenience and infrastructure too.

I flew from London to Perth landing at 1.30 am, then after kicking my heels for 6 hours in the International airport I transferred to the Domestic airport where I departed for Albany WA at 7.30am in a small two prop plane. This was several years ago. I can now see from your pics what I missed! Fabulous!
Two days stopover in Albany which was very quaint and friendly. On the Monday morning another short hop to Perth International then 5 hours flight over boring desert terrain from to Melbourne for the Oz Grand Prix. Gotta go back one day! Cool country and so much more to see.

I like the idea of living that isolated from the rest of the world, yet having convenience and infrastructure too. There isn't too much Perth doesn't have relative to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, except for some of the big sporting events that the other Australian capitals have secured. But we also don't have the traffic, crazy house prices and variable weather they have either, so overall its a pretty good quality of living. Looks very attractive from the warm side of the window. I hate the stuff when I have to venture out though.

We've had some snow today, only 4" but enough to make things look prettier. It wasn't that much fun cycling to work though, because the council apparently doesn't clear the cycle paths.

In Lisbon, Portugal. South-Western tip of Europe. City founded in 1128, there's a lot of information about this place. I live in a neighborhood called Alvalade, that was the result of urban planning and city expansion in 1940-50 decades. Is a reference for architects and urban planners still today. 5 minutes to the airport, this is a quiet and friendly sector with almost eveything you need. After the subprime crisis, economy and tourism brought a new face to the city, with huge interventions in old degraded neighborhoods from XVI and XVII centurys in downtown. In the last 6-7 years old Lisbon got a new refurbished face. City Hall made some good interventions through recent years, and others not so good, due to the recent cycling fever. All this development has a high cost, however. Tradicional commerce and portuguese shops almost vanished. Housing in Lisbon is no longer affordable to most portuguese. Central areas, and especially older areas of the city are now occupied by: Rich portuguese Rich foreigners Tourists Airbnb's Asian immigrants, most of the times with 5 or 6 sharing the same bedroom. Sadly, today I can hardly recognise the city I was familiar with for decades, and was part of my social and professional life. 1 Lisbon seen from the bridge over river Tejo 2 Old city 3 My street

We spent a few days in Lisbon back in 2017 - a surprise 50th birthday trip for my sister. We stayed near the old town centre and had a wonderful time - a very beautiful city with friendly people. The only weird part of the trip was the obvious approaches from people in the busy main square, looking to sell various types of drugs to us! We hope to visit again some day - we will again stick to the very nice Portuguese wine and not the other available items .

Fellow members, as tourists you hill have a great time in this city. Lots of history, culture and recent trendy and cultural spaces like LX Factory or Fabrica de Braço de Prata (old industrial facilities that were transformed). Also lots of good things to eat and drink!

Haha, dont mind about those small drug entrepreneurs... they are usually harmless. The opposite also happens: A few monhts ago, I was having a conversation with an old friend in a street in my neighboorhood, and we were approached by a young tiny bald italian, asking if we by chance would have some coke to sell to him! We politely told him no, We decided that in the next time that we'll have this kind of approach we´ll show our identity card or driver´s licence for a millisecond, and tell the buyer we are police. Then we push the guy on to a dark corner, and squeeze some Euros from him, so he wont go to jail!

Like others, we did a 8 day trip to Lisbon and Porto and loved it. When friends ask us where they should visit, we always mention Portugal as a “ hidden gem”.
