Late last year I was gifted a couple of kits by an esteemed member of this parish, and in return I said I'd do a step by step build on them. First up of the two is Tamiya's 1/24 1984 release of the Rothmans Porsche 956 which finished 1-2 and Le Mans 1983 with the third car being a DNF. Somewhere in the mists of time the original decals had gone awry, so I acquired an after market set which have the added bonus of including the proper logos.
This is a picture of the contents - the glazing is present I just forgot to put it in the photo
Progress to follow

I can envision many hours of build time ahead and a great subject to spend them on!

I actually made a start on this several days ago and have been taking pictures at each stage of assembly and painting so it's going to be picture heavy. So without further ado Cylinder head meets block and fan and shroud get a base coat of aluminium The other cylinder head is added and part of the rear subframe gets a coat of paint Engine gets a first coat of aluminium and the paint detailing on the fan starts Engine covers gets a lick of red/orange and the belts are painted Second coat of red/orange and a coat of paint on the intakes plus the rear cross member
Pulleys get touched in Expansion tank painted Rear upper suspension arms in the paint booth Fan glued to engine block, detail painting on the suspension arms and expansion tank Cockpit in the paint booth

That looks great! Being a Tamiya it’s beautifully engineered and fits together well. Sometimes making a silk purse out of a sow's ear can be gratifying but the build process for high-quality kits is a lot more fun.

Clearly very well thought out.
You have already done more than I could ever hope to accomplish. Thank you, but that's only because I have the necessary time

More than a little detail you will only know about I guess, because it will be hard or even impossible to see on the end product.

More than a little detail you will only know about I guess, because it will be hard or even impossible to see on the end product. This is always the thing with a lot of kits. Do you spend a lot of time getting all the detail right and then closing it away or not.
Couple more progress pictures
Detail painting on the transmission, bulkhead and drivers seat
Addition of rear body supports to the transmission
Rear upper suspension arms meet crossmember

I'm enjoying this Andy. Long time since a Tamiya 1:24th came across my work bench, so nice to see how someone else tackles the job. Always like to swap model building ideas/tips.
